GIGG grote winnaar Startup Weekend Utrecht

13 startups gevormd in 54 uur

Van 11 t/m 13 november was Utrecht de plek voor ondernemers op het gebied van interactieve media en games. Zij werden tijdens dit weekend door organisator Startup Weekend uitgedaagd om in 54 uur een bedrijf te beginnen. Na de pitch van alle deelnemers benoemde een jury van experts en durfkapitalisten GIGG als de grote winnaar.

Meer dan 100 ontwikkelaars, marketeers, designers en productmanagers hadden zich aangemeld. Daarvan gingen uiteindelijk 13 teams de strijd met elkaar aan. Van vrijdagavond tot zondagmiddag werkten zij hun ideeën uit naar businessmodellen, -cases en prototypes. Deze waren veelal getoetst op toekomstige gebruikers, die zij in het centrum van Utrecht interviewden.

Op zondagavond vond de zinderende finale plaats; het moment om de startup te pitchen voor het publiek, experts en potentiële investeerders. In verschillende categorieën waren er prijzen te winnen.

De grote winnaar van Startup Weekend Utrecht is GIGG. Een platform waarop live concerten gerate kunnen worden (rock&rate). GIGG wint een half jaar ondersteuning bij UtrechtInc, de incubator voor startups in Utrecht en omgeving. Daarbij krijgen zij huisvesting, begeleiding, coaching, workshops én toegang tot het (financiële) netwerk van de UtrechtInc.

De andere prijs die GIGG in de wacht sleepte is de wildcard voor de Global Startup Battle. In de komende drie weken nemen zij deel aan een wereldwijde competitie om de beste mondiale Startup Weekend startup te worden.

De eerste prijs in de gaming categorie ging naar iSpeech, een online spel waardoor spreken in het openbaar leuk wordt. iSpeech krijgt bij de Dutch Game Garden een half jaar incubatie om de startup naar een volgende fase te brengen. Ook krijgen zij de mogelijkheid tot pitchen tijdens de ‘Game in the City’ masterclass op 25 november. Favour.it won de Yearlin prize voor ‘most convincing pitch & motivation’.

From 11-13 of November Startup Weekend Utrecht will take place. Within 54 hours you will bring your business idea towards a mind blowing startup company. Or if you aspire to start a company but don’t have a idea yet, you should come as well and get to know your future business partners. Start up weekend is a great event for business people, (game) developers and designers who aspire to start their own enterprise.

So what will happen: on Friday night people pitch their business ideas, then you will form teams. On Saturday and Sunday you will work, together with your team and develop your idea into a business model, marketing plan and a prototype. And then on Sunday afternoon… it is time to pitch your business to a jury of extremely successful entrepreneurs! And the winners in a variety of categories can win amazing prices that will kick-start your business.

Startup Weekend Utrecht will focus on interactive media and games. Perhaps we will see the next angry birds fly out, or a true alternative for grand theft auto to prevent traffic jams, or a new ‘layar’.
